THE CHRONOLOGY OF SAUL AND DAVID
Document Link
Leslie McFall "Is it possible to draw up a chronology of Saul and David, so that we can get a clearer, historical perspective on the lives of these two influential men? I think we can, and surprisingly, the pivotal clue is contained in the enigmatic statement in 1 Sam 13:1, the only chronological statement relating to Saul’s life in the OT." Kings fn3
What is Sin?

John MacArthur "This chapter [Genesis 3]may well be the most important chapter in the Bible,..." "You will never be able to understand God's remedy for this world if you don't understand the malady under which this world lives and functions." Differences fn1
The Breadth and Depth of Sin
Document Link
John MacArthur "The simple narrative of the opening seven verses of Genesis chapter 3 describes for us the first act of human disobedience which brought about the curse on all mankind: the Fall. The impact of that Fall has touched every part of the universe. It is accurate to say that absolutely everything wrong in our world is because of sin." Differences fn2
The Origin of Evil
Document Link
John MacArthur "to disobey God was to initiate evil. Evil is not the presence of something, evil is the absence of righteousness. You can’t create evil because evil doesn’t exist as a created entity. It doesn’t exist as a created reality. Evil is a negative. Evil is the absence of perfection. It’s the absence of holiness. It’s the absence of goodness. It’s the absence of righteousness. Evil became a reality only when creatures chose to do disobey. Evil came into existence initially then in the fall of angels and then next, in the fall of Adam and Eve." Differences fn3
Election and Predestination: The Sovereignty of God in Salvation

John MacArthur, et al "And the very first Chapter Verse 4 introduces a wonderful, important doctrine in Scripture. It's the doctrine of election...the doctrine of election simply means that God, uninfluenced and before creation, predetermined certain people to be saved...Predestination simply identifies the point prior to time when God determined that He would elect. In other words, the election is the actual choice. Predestination simply identifies this as something that happened preliminary to time." Differences fn4
Election and Predestination: The Sovereignty of God in Salvation

John MacArthur, et al "Arminianism, I would classify most Arminianism as a kind of semi-Pelagianism. After Pelagius passed from the scene and his teaching was declared a heresy, there arose a new sort of modification of Pelagius' teachings -- semi-Pelagianism, that's the technical name for it -- that taught okay, well, we were damaged by Adam's sin, it did affect us, we did inherit sinful tendencies, but -- and different semi-Pelagians treat it different ways -- but the most common view is God just gives grace to all of humanity, and restores us to the place where we can make a free choice. And so again, like with Pelagianism, semi-Pelagianism puts all the emphasis on free will.choice. Predestination simply identifies this as something that happened preliminary to time."
