21 | Ahab | Israel | Reign | 22 | 1 Ki 16:28-33; 17:1; 18:1-6, 9, 12, 16-17, 20, 41-46; 19:1; 20:2, 13-14; 21:1-4, 15-29; 22:20, 39-41, 49-51; 2 Ch 18:1-3, 19 | 38 | 12 | NN | 874 | 853 |
Ahab's reign as King of Israel id summarized in 1 Kings 16:30 "Ahab the son of Omri did evil in the sight of the LORD more than all who were before him." He married Jezebel, daughter of Ethball king of the Sidonians. He erected an altar to Baal in Samaria. Elijah told Ahab of the coming drought. Jezebel killed all the Prophets of Israel, but the Lord hid 100 of them. Elijah had Ahab and the 450 prophets of Ball come to Mount Carmel where Elijah challenged Baal's prophets to demonstrate Ball's power. They failed and the Lord performed a miracle for the people to witness. The drought was ended and the 450 false prophets were killed. Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done and she sent a message to Elijah that he would be killed by the next day. The king of Aram and 32 kings besieged Samaria. The lord sent a prophet to tell Ahab to gather the young men of Israel and they routed the Arameans. The Lord warned Ahab that the Arameans would attach again at the new year. Ahab and Israel defeated them again. Ahab covets Naboth's vineyard and Jezebel plotted Naboth's death. Ahab humbles himself before the Lord and so the Lord delayed punishment of his house until his son's reign. Jehoshaphat, king of Judah joined Ahab in a 3rd war with the Arameans. They were defeated and Ahab was killed.

26 | Ahaziah of Ahab | Israel | Reign | 2 | 1 Ki 22:40, 49, 51; 2 Ki 1:1, 2-4, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, 15-16; 2 Ch 20:35, 37 | 17 | 24 | NN | 854 | 853 |
Ahaziah, son of Ahab, reigned over Israel for less than 2 years. If you interpret 1 Ki 22:51 to be the 17th year from the beginning of Jehoshaphat's coregency then he may have co-reigned with Ahab for 3 years. This is doubtful. His reign most likely began at the death of Ahab. Ahaziah attempted partnership with Jehoshaphat, King of Judah, to use ships to get gold from Ophir. The Lord was displeased with Jehoshaphat because he allied himself with Ahaziah and destroyed the ships. This Jehoshaphat refused Ahaziah. Ahaziah did evil in the eyes of si9ght of the Lord and walked in the way of his father and mother. Moab rebelled against Israel after Ahab died. Ahaziah fell from his upper chamber and became ill. He sent messengers to inquire from the prophets of Baal whether he would be healed. The Lord sent Elijah to tell the messengers that there is no God in Israel and Ahaziah would never leave his bed and die. Ahaziah sent a captain and his 50 men to Elijah 3 times to order Elijah to come down to Ahaziah. The Lord consumed them in fire the first two times. The 3rd captain pleaded with Elijah that they not be consumed in fire. The Lord sent Elijah to Ahaziah to deliver the message personally that he was going to die. And so Ahaziah died.

30 | Ahaziah (Jehoahaz) | Judah | Coregent | 1 | 2 Ki 9:29 | 11 | 27 | NN | 843 | 843 |
Ahaziah son of Jehoram is said to begin to reign over Judah for one year in the 12th year of Joram son of Ahab king of Israel in 1 Ki 8:25 but 2 Ki 9:29 says he became king in the 11th year of Joram. Many believe that the difference is because one chronicler used a different dating system than the other. However this can be best explained by Ahaziah having a one year coregency with his father. This is likely because Jehoram started using the Northern kingdoms dating system and he was severely ill for the last two years of his reign. The inhabitants of Jerusalem placed Ahaziah the youngest son upon the throne probably because of his fathers illness 2 Ch 22:1.
